“Diamond Street in September”

This original 30 × 48” acrylic painting on canvas is part of Locals’ Summer, my thank-you to the city that raised me as an artist and a love letter to the San Diego coast in its most enchanting season. Every San Diegan knows there’s a fifth season: the water is still warm, the sun sits lower and softer, and for a few weeks the coast feels like it opens just for us. Working from film photographs, I use the fade and softness of the medium to carry the feeling of memory: sun-bleached color, blurred edges, the beach as I knew it as a kid. Locals’ Summer is on view at Liberty Station Command Center through November.
