Michaela Jean Upp is a painter, mother, and devoted gardener whose work is defined by a style she calls whimsical romanticism—a poetic fusion of emotional memory, nature, and imagination. Her paintings invite viewers to return to the magic of the natural world and to the wonder-filled lives they once knew as children.

Working primarily in oil and watercolor, Michaela’s practice moves between expressive brushwork and fine detail, often inspired by her garden and the atmosphere of the California coast. Her compositions evoke the feeling of daydreams: soft, luminous, and playful.

Influenced by artists and poets such as Claude Monet, J.M.W. Turner, Beatrix Potter, and Emily Dickinson, Michaela explores the space between the visible and the imagined—between reality and reverie. Themes of longing, wonder, and awe thread through her landscapes, florals, and nature studies.

In addition to her studio practice, Michaela offers elevated art lessons designed to help others reconnect with beauty, intuition, and their own creative spark. Through both painting and teaching, she cultivates a world where tenderness, observation, and imagination matter.

At its heart, her work is a devotion—to the Earth, to creative play, and to the magic of being alive.
