Plant Wisdom for the Holidays

wildflowers found in the canyon behind my family home

In the hustle and bustle of our daily lives, especially during the holidays…it's easy to get caught up in the whirlwind of worries and stress. But what if we could find solace and connection by simply contemplating the life cycle of a plant?

You might be thinking, “Wait, what in the world is she talking about?”

Hear me out; plants, with their resilience and natural cycles, have a lot to teach us about life, growth, and the interconnectedness of all living things. Taking a moment to reflect on a plant's journey can offer a refreshing perspective, helping us to navigate our own challenges with a newfound sense of peace.

See below as I break this down further, because who doesn’t love a good list?

1. From Seed: Begin by envisioning the seed – a tiny package of potential. In the same way, our dreams and/or worries, hold the promise of growth and transformation. Embrace the idea that whatever challenges we are facing and whatever dreams we hold onto are the seeds of our personal development, our future potential. Water them (your dreams or your worries) as you will.

2. Strength in Roots: As a plant sends out roots to anchor itself, we too can ground ourselves by nurturing our support systems and prioritizing self-care. Nutrition, sleep, mindfulness, family, friends, and a strong sense of community act as the roots that provide stability during life's storms.

3. Stem of Resilience: The stem represents resilience, bending but not breaking in the face of adversity. Adopting a flexible mindset allows us to weather difficulties with grace, knowing that challenges are part of the journey.

4. Blooming in Adversity: Witnessing a flower in full bloom, despite the struggles it may have faced, is a testament to the beauty that can emerge from adversity. Similarly, our own growth and blossoming often arise from navigating challenges. This I think, is the MOST important. So if you skimmed over, read it again.

5. Cycle of Renewal: Acknowledge that just as plants shed leaves in the fall, letting go is an essential part of growth. Embrace the natural cycle of renewal and allow yourself the space to shed what no longer serves you.

6. Seeds of Gratitude: Finally, reflect on the seeds produced at the end of a plant's life cycle. Similarly, our experiences, both positive and challenging, contribute to the seeds of gratitude that we can plant for the future.

By contemplating the life cycle of a plant, we open ourselves to a profound connection with nature and the universe. This simple exercise encourages us to step back from the weight of our problems, reminding us that we are part of a much larger, interconnected tapestry of life. So, the next time you find yourself overwhelmed, take a stroll through nature, observe a plant, and let its wisdom guide you to a place of serenity. After all, in the grand dance of existence, our worries are but fleeting moments in the vast beauty of the universe.

Sending you so much love and life this season.
